Tools as Art

Nov 7, 2003–Jan 4, 2004

Tools as Art, the Hechinger Collection, was a traveling exhibition organized by International Arts & Artists, celebrating the amazing variety of 20th century art that represents or incorporates tools and hardware. This exhibition featured 65 highlights from the collection that transform familiar forms into works of great imaginative power- from hammers, saws and wrenches to such machine tools as the lathe in wood, glass, metal, paper, and stone. Other works included assemblages of found objects and building materials, as well as paintings, prints and photographs depicting all sorts of tools.
