So That We May Find What Has Been Lost

April 2 – April 26, 2009
Gallery 4
Featuring Roberta Cohen
Roberta Cohen, a newcomer to the San Antonio art community, will be exhibiting her work in Gallery 4 from April 2nd to 26th.
The exhibit will feature new drawings that are part of and consistent with the body of work Cohen has been building for several years. The drawings are predominantly black and white; are made from pencil, charcoal and/or pastel; and are filled with light and balance. They all portray a sense of place, with the quiet that comes before something is about to happen or has just happened. Some have figures, some are the space alone. They are all tied to each other, and one picks up where the other left off.
Cohen’s work is investigative. Her drawings are dreamlike, expressive and captivating. The new body of work, although clearly tied to what has come before it, is more literal, more physical and more anticipatory. The spaces and figures are exacting and deliberate. The drawings have a strong sense of narration and intimacy.
In walking through the exhibit, the viewer will see that Cohen is not just searching for something but is documenting a story.
Cohen has a B.A. from Yale University and an M.F.A. from Southern Methodist University.
