Smoking Mirror

Smoking Mirror exhibited artworks from Michael Tracy, an artist from San Ygnacio, Texas. The title of the series, and of this exhibition, recalls one of the names for the Aztec sky god Tezcatlipoca, the God of Destiny. Tracy understands that all of this work, removed to a place and time quite different from that of its making, may have an even greater presence for that relocation. These paintings, drawings and sculpture are more than the possibilities of process and living that are at the zócalo (the central place of assembly that is the foundation, the supporting abase and heart of the daily lives of the people), the foundation of his work, and presented in the context of an exhibition sincerely engaged, they refer to places, intensely personal experiences and states of being, and happen to be about the way in which Michael Tracy, himself, has been made in Mexico.
