Featuring Paul Rodriguez
Contemporary at Blue Star announces Post Penis, an exhibition by Los Angeles based artist Paul Rodriguez, from March 6 through May 11, 2014. An installation consisting of video loops, light and sound, Post Penis captivated the viewer using sublime landscapes, abstraction, still lifes, vivid color and entrancing sound as a means to provoke thought beyond the physical present. An Opening Reception will take place Thursday, March 6 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, and is open and free to the public.
BIOGRAPHY:
Paul Rodriguez was born on the Gulf of Mexico in Texas, 1985. Solo exhibitions include Asexual at Mexicali Rose, Mexicali and CV at 3927 W. Olympic, Los Angeles. His film work has been shown in Buenos Aires, Cannes, Madrid, New York, Hong Kong, and on PBS. He has done a residency with Preteen Gallery in Mexico City. Curatorial concepts include El Museo de Pablo and Rodriguez Projects. Rodriguez has worked with Harmony Korine, Dennis Hopper, Crystal Castles, and No Age. His photography has been commissioned by Dazed & Confused, Spin, Lurve, ‘Sup, and Paper. Rodriguez currently lives and works in Los Angeles, Central America and anywhere beautiful. ARTIST STATEMENT:
A heat wave came and went. Summer ended. How many times can you tell me where I live.
Táysha, Tejas, Texas. Native lands not in native control.
Men want men. Women want men so they can have children.
From her to fur. From tragedy to her majesty.
Post Penis is an installation consisting of video, light, and sound. Not community or country based. No condom contracts.
