Julie Speed featured the work of American artist Julie Speed. Speed believed that “true art” is that experience whereby the viewer is able to “click into the work,” when the art speaks to our collective consciousness. Speed aligns herself with Russian artist Kasimir Malevich, who invented the word “suprematism” to describe a theory and practice of art that strives to express pure aesthetic universal feelings unsullied by personal, social, political or other temporal considerations. They share the idea that art (of any kind) should aim itself higher toward a universal aesthetic.
