Here/There: An Exploration of Public Art
Jul 6–29, 2001
Here/There: An Exploration of Public Art was curated by Risa Puleo and Ethel Shipton. The show exhibited artworks from the following artists: Cakky Brawley, Andréa Caillouet, José Chapa, Patrick Cormier, Agosto Cuellar, Rae Culbert, William Lambert, Leigh Anne Lester, Karen Mahaffy, Michele Monseau, Henry Rayburn, Ron Rendón, Nic Reisen, Riley Robinson, Samantha Talbot-Kelly, and Robert “Beeboy” Tatum. Here/Therewas an exhibition that transcends the boundaries of the exhibition spaces and moves to off-site locations along the South Alamo Corridor. Storefronts, windows, sidewalks and fence lines were converted into “wall spaces” for emerging and established San Antonio artists to create a public art project. The Contemporary was the extension of a public art site and a dialogue between types of space: inside and outside, private and public, temporary and permanent, conceptual and real, arises to expand the concept of exhibiting outside of the exhibition space.
