Featuring Carlos Betancourt
In his artwork, Betancourt combines images from nature and popular culture. The artist works with themes of Trans-Caribbean identity, exploring how the Central American Diaspora settle in other areas while maintaining their identity, and blending in with the culture of their adopted country. He is keen in digital photography and computer manipulation techniques, creating opulent images in rich jewel tones.
His artwork is in public collections such as the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; San Antonio Museum of Art in Texas; the Miami Art Museum; and the Museum of Latin American Art in LA. He is the recipient of numerous awards and grants, including the Florida Department of State Millennium Cultural Recognition Award, a National Endowment for the Arts Grant, and the Miami Beach Arts Council Grant.
