The Contemporary Film Series: The Matrix (1999)

In collaboration with Ruby City, Contemporary at Blue Star and Ruby City present the second screening of The Contemporary Film Series: The Matrix (1999). Starring Keanu Reeves, the screening pairs with Ruby City’s inaugural exhibition, Waking Dream, to invite viewers to engage in discussion about the connection between reality and the world of dreams. Similarly, the breakdown of the sci-fi alternative reality presented in the film echoes themes in Contemporary at Blue Star’s current exhibitions exploring construction and deconstruction of political and societal systems, environment, health care, and formalism. Preceding the feature, Contemporary at Blue Star exhibiting artist Joey Fauerso will screen video work in conjunction with her current Contemporary at Blue Star show, Teardowns.

The Contemporary Film Series is a natural partnership between Ruby City, who fosters the creation, presentation, and understanding of innovative expression through contemporary art and Contemporary at Blue Star, who inspires, nurtures, and innovates through contemporary art. Through this collaboration, both organizations demonstrate a commitment to providing access to compelling films that galvanize meaningful conversations within the San Antonio community and beyond.
