Plein Air on the River with Shelby Criswell
Sunday, October 27, 2024
9am–1pm
Join us in a day of art making “en plein air,” or outdoors, along the river trail, in partnership with local artist Shelby Criswell.
Shelby will demo some tips and tricks for landscape art in the Contemporary’s Education Space prior to art making outdoors. Participants are encouraged to bring folding chairs and picnic blankets to sit on. Drawing materials will be provided, but feel free to bring any other art supplies you might want to have on hand.
+ For this event, we’ll start in our Education Space (132 Blue Star). Meet us there! Our Education Space is located between our main gallery and Slab Cinema.
About the Instructor:
Shelby Criswell is a San Antonio native illustrator, graphic designer, and artist. They are an Ignatz and Ringo-award winning comic artist for their work in “Be Gay Do Comics.” Shelby was the inaugural artist chosen for the Southtown Artist Residency in early 2024 and since has shown work all over the great state of Texas. They keep a regular plein air and urban sketching practice. For every day in the month of October, Shelby is doing at least one plein air drawing or painting in a challenge they call, “Plein Air-tober.”
