Xicanx: Dreamers + Changemakers – Opening Night

Contemporary at Blue Star invites the public to the opening of Xicanx: Dreamers + Changemakers | Soñadores + creadores del cambio. Of Mexican-American origin, they self-identify as Xicanx, a term that crosses national borders and gender lines to encompass the Chicano people’s multi-generational experiences of social difference.

Opening night will include a performance by exhibiting artist Roberto Gonzalez at 8pm.

Xicanx: Dreamers + Changemakers | Soñadores + creadores del cambio was originally presented by MOA and ARENET and curated by Jill Baird, former Curator of Education, MOA + Greta de Léon, Executive Director, ARENET. The presentation at Contemporary at Blue Star has been organized in collaboration with Mary Heathcott, Executive Director Contemporary at Blue Star; Jacqueline Saragoza McGilvray, Curator and Exhibitions Director, Contemporary at Blue Star; and Jon Hinjosa, Xicanx Project Director, ARENET.

PARKING
The Blue Star Arts Complex parking lot is valet only on First Friday beginning at 3pm for a $15 fee. Street parking is free in the surrounding neighborhoods and visitors can park for free at Brackenridge High School’s parking lot during non-school hours only. The lot is just a short stroll along the Riverwalk to the complex. Other great options include taking the Via bus (#51 stops in front of complex off S.Alamo), or rideshares such as Uber and Lyft. Feel like biking? SA Bike Share offers numerous docking stations throughout San Antonio’s cultural destinations, in and surrounding the urban core.
