Join Contemporary at Blue Star in Berlin this fall and experience firsthand the rich cultural landscape of one of the world’s top cities. Since 2014, Contemporary at Blue Star has annually awarded four Bexar County-based artists three-month residencies in Berlin at the renowned Künstlerhaus Bethanien (KB). Now you can have the opportunity to experience Berlin like our artist residents at the most exciting time of the year: Berlin Art Week!

Contemporary at Blue Star will treat you to exclusive access to artist studios, Berlin Art Week events, and an insider view of Berlin that would be impossible to access on one’s own. We have worked with the curator/experts at Berlin Art Link to design an art-lover’s dream itinerary, which includes advance VIP access to Berlin Art Week and the Art Berlin and Positions art fairs. Contemporary at Blue Star’s Executive Director Mary Heathcott and Curator and Exhibitions Manager Jack McGilvray will guide you through artist studios at the home of the Contemporary at Blue Star Berlin Residency Program, the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, where we will meet up with our current artist-in-residence, Jorge Villarreal. In addition to private collection and curator-led tours of major cultural institutions, a beloved artist friend of Contemporary at Blue Star, Arturo Herrera, will welcome our group to his Berlin art studio, and our Berlin Residency Program founder and Advisory Council member Angelika Jansen will host a reception in her breathtaking apartment overlooking the Berlin Zoological Garden.

Of course, Berlin isn’t only known for its art, it’s a great place to eat, drink, and shop as well. We will take you to the best stalls at the Turkish market in the heart of Kreuzberg, taste more than great riesling, and stop off at some of the best third wave coffeehouses and boutique shops. At the end of the day, we’ll crash at our cosmopolitan digs at the Amano Hotel in the centrally-located Mitte district of Berlin, close to the some of the city’s best art galleries, cafes, and bars.

Reservation deadline is August 1, 2019. Trip cost is $4,946 per person for double occupancy, and includes 7 nights of hotel accommodations, most meals, entry cost for collection tours and entertainment fees, a special gift for our travelers of a compendium of Berlin recommendations compiled from more than 20 artist alumni of the Contemporary at Blue Star Berlin Residency program, and a $500 donation to Contemporary at Blue Star.
