Join us for a private, guided viewing of Ryan Takaba’s 49 to a new installation. Takaba’s work features impermanent materials, including wax, incense, and flowers. The installation is temporal while containing more permanent ceramic objects and is activated through an extended, durational performances. Documentation of the performative part of this work is on view as part of the Red Dot 2022 show. The work settles as both performance residue and sculptural objects.

Ryan Takaba is a material artist whose sculptures, tableaux, and installations are centered around a study of scientific reason and the power of belief, incorporating thematic materials -flowers, ash, wax, and water.  He exhibits his work throughout the United States and has participated in residencies at the European Ceramic Work Center, Netherlands; The Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China; and The Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Germany as a grantee of Contemporary at Blue Star. He earned an MFA in Ceramics from Kent State University, Ohio and a  BFA in Ceramics from the University of Hawai`i.  Ryan currently lives and works in San Antonio, Texas.
