Join us for a family friendly afternoon of art making with Red Dot Show exhibiting artist Kari Englehardt! Have you ever wondered how birds construct their nests? Reflect on the art of nest building during this tactile workshop. Considering the built vs. natural environment, participants will build nests by weaving and knotting found plant materials from nature along with collected man-made debris into wire mesh nest forms.
This is a free workshop open to all ages and families are welcomed! All materials are provided. Space is limited, so register today.
Artist bio
Kari Englehardt focuses on the narrative value of nature as an inquiry to human involvement in the natural world. Previously her work approached topics of time and place, boundaries and borders, immigration data, and immigration origin stories through a lens of native plant ecology. Currently she is creating a modern herbarium of imagined botany and neo-native holotypes. A mixed media artist with an emphasis on the encaustic process, Kari chooses tactile materials, such as wax, resin, rust, and soil as a metaphor for time, place, and their intersections with humanity.
