We welcome BContemporary at Blue Star Members to join artist Andrei Renteria for our next Contemporary at Blue Star Members Drink & Draw! Andrei is an alumnus of the Contemporary at Blue Star Berlin Residency Program, and his Drink & Draw project (details below!) overlaps with conversations sparked our current group exhibition From Underfoot: Breaking Through Surface and Ground. Join us in the gallery for drinks, art, and conversation — all materials provided, but please register so we have enough for everyone!

Drink and Draw Project Details:

Anthropocene |ˈanTHrəpəˌsēn|
adjective–relating to or denoting the current geological age, viewed as the period during which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment.

A selection of natural forms: twigs, branches, leaves, seed pods, dried or cut flowers, and weeds will be assembled into a still life. Participants will layer linear strokes inspired by the variety of forms (broad or thin; floppy or stiff, etc.), and treat each plant with a distinctive mark, emphasizing the diversity within the group.

Participants will be encouraged to overlap the edges or lay forms on top of each other to add depth to their compositions, as well as varying the placement of different forms so that the eye moves across their compositions.

The use of an eraser will also be encouraged to create different types of marks (white marks instead of black). Participants will “draw” with it as they would the graphite and bring out particular forms in an overlap.

Finally, participants should have a panorama that suggests some of the complexity found in nature along with the rhythm and energy of growing forms through a variety of shapes and marks.
