About the Instructor
Angelica Raquel’s work is deeply rooted in the cultural traditions and familial stories of her upbringing in Laredo, Texas. Acting as a new generational storyteller, she draws from folklore, oral histories, and personal experiences to create narratives that bridge the past and present. Inspired by the tales shared by her late grandfather, her work reimagines and expands on leyendas (legends) that explore themes of morality, societal shifts, familial roles, and humanity’s relationship with nature and the unknown. Angelica relocated to Central Texas where she earned her BFA from Texas State University in 2016 before settling in San Antonio Texas where she earned her MFA from UTSA in 2020. Angelica’s work has been exhibited nationally, most notable include Visions West Contemporary in Denver Colorado, Gerald Peters Contemporary in Santa Fe New Mexico, and solo exhibitions at The Museum of The Southwest in Midland TX, and Lawndale Center for The Arts in Houston TX where she currently serves on the Artist Advisory Board.
