Blue Star on Fredericksburg Road: The Fountain Project
Nov 13–Dec 15, 1998
Blue Star on Fredericksburg Road: The Fountain Project was curated by Felix Padrón and Lesley Wenger and exhibited artworks from art and architecture teams José Güadiana and Francisco Lopez, Anita Valencia and Chris Garcia, Ben Mata and Gabriel Velazquez, Twyla Arthur and Terry Palmer, Roger Colombik and Rene Balderas, Henry Stein and Eduardo García, Larry Graeber and Leticia Zavala, Barbara Levine and Heidi White, Leticia Huerta and John Dupuy, Bill FitzGibbons and Nate Manfred, Carlos Cortés and Pete Olfers, Fritz Ozuna and Angel Garcia, Jackie Dorsey and Paul Barwick, Kathleen Trenchard and John Thompson, and Suzanne Paquette and Hector Martinez. This show continued the tradition of building a partnership between business and the arts that served to uplift and re-energize the once vital commercial corridors of the city, begun in 1995 on Houston Street. This exhibit reached out to all the neighborhoods of San Antonio through site specific fountain designs by local artists and architects, as well as through the photography of students from Thomas Jefferson Fine Arts Academy. The fountains were purely conceptual, featuring maquettes (small models) of the artists’ concepts for fountains conceived for specific sites in San Antonio, showcased in windows of Deco district business on Fredericksburg Road.
