Kazuo Kadonaga: Wood/Paper/Bamboo/Silk was curated by Ric Collier and highlighted artist Kazuo Kadonaga, from Turugimachi, Ishikawa-ken, Japan. Kadonaga’s family owned immense cedar forests and a sizable lumber mill in Tsurugimachi, inspiring the artist to produce works about and of his environment. Kadonaga integrates a traditional and ancient Japanese aesthetic into his contemporary work, drawing on nature, its frailties and flaws, perfect in its randomness. Kazuo Kadonaga thrives on this discovery of the natural form, initializing and partially controlling the evolution of these works while allowing the unique nature of each piece to make the final decision. In the composition of this work, nature is the orchestra and Kadonaga the conductor.
