Join us and Ruby City for The Contemporary Film Series, as we kick off this new program with a screening of Barry Jenkins’ critically-acclaimed film Moonlight (2016) on Saturday, May 4.
The Contemporary Film Series is a natural partnership between Ruby City, who fosters the creation, presentation, and understanding of innovative expression through contemporary art and Contemporary at Blue Star, who inspires, nurtures, and innovates through contemporary art. Through this meaningful collaboration, both organizations demonstrate a commitment to providing access to compelling films that galvanize meaningful conversations within the San Antonio community and beyond. After the initial screening of Moonlight, events will be held twice annually.
ABOUT THE FILM
A coming-of-age drama exploring the difficulties of growing up queer in Miami, Moonlight was the first film with an all-black cast—as well as the first LGBTQAI+ film—to win the Oscar for Best Picture. The screening coincides with Studio’s exhibition of Isaac Julien’s seminal 1989 documentary-drama Looking for Langston, which explores black and queer identities.
