Personal Permanent Records: Contemporary Portraiture Photography from Latin America

Sep 1–Nov 17, 2000

Personal Permanent Records: Contemporary Portraiture Photography from Latin America was curated by Malin Barth and exhibited works from Latin American artists Alexander Apóstol, Claudia Aranowich, Aziz + Cucher, Marcelo Brodsky, Sara Maneiro, Eduardo Medici, Marcela Mouján, Oscar Muñoz, Luciana Nápchan, Rosângela Rennó, Juan Leal Ruiz, Antonio Saggese, Ana Tiscornia, Milagros de la Torre, Janaina Tschähpe, and Eugenia Vargas. Barth chose artists with the commonality of identity and memory in their work. The artists selected by Barth used portraiture to validate their differentiated identities and memories: personal, sexual, collective, national, and historical.
