ARTIST STATEMENT:

Systemically, I am dedicated to the pursuit of making explicit the logical quantity of LINES and the generalized specificity of their quality phenomena. Now that is a mouthful. This is the foundation of the tiling of interlocking lines, into patterns, a system of concepts ( Displacement-of-Volume; i.e., DoV) used throughout my oeuvre since March 7, 1972.

Therefore, this presentation is a mini look inside the 40th year, celebrating the discovery of the DoV System, juxtaposing early with the latest iterations.

As a formalist, painter/sculptor, I am interested beyond the physical existence of EDGES, the open-endedness of simply making marks or the differing sensory modes of achieving mass. Synetic energy encounters are my interest. Initially inspired in 1963 by Edwin A. Abbott’s Flatland, visual studio dialogues principally become encounters, not problems to solve and resolve, but situations to evolve from the conceptual force-fields producing mass (form, contexture), encapsulated by imagined, virtual and real LINES. Thus the LINES are packed patterns of generalized mass, producing old and new forms to edit, evoke metaphors, spin narratives and proclaim ideological stances.

That’s a lot of art-speak. Simply enjoy the tensions and harmonies of color, lines, patterns and symbols that may lead to a personalized narrative.
