James Cobb

Jun 27–Oct 4, 2026

James Cobb is a painter and digital visual artist with his own distinct abstract language that bridges across mediums. An artist featured in the Contemporary’s original 1986 Blue Star group exhibition, Cobb has remained a prolific artistic stalwart in the San Antonio art community. His adventurous, experimental process surfaces unexpected imagery that tows the line between abstraction and representation. This exhibition features new paintings and digital works. His work is percolation of current events and cultural digital zeitgeist, informing shape, color and form in the works. What materializes in the work is a rhythmic visual language, seemingly influenced by an array of complex systems, from anatomical, geological, architectural infrastructure, and the natural world. Peering into the system of the work is at once closed and expansive, disjointed and interconnected, sublime and visceral. This exhibition will be the debut of a series of new paintings and recent digital works.
