Bella Martinez
Jun 27–Oct 4, 2026
Emerging San Antonio artist Bella Martinez works in a range of media to push painting towards 3-dimensional object. She utilizes the layering and building up to material to create dimension. Her interest in materiality is a response to the content inundation as a prevailing condition contemporary society, particularly of her generation, gen-z, and the reliance on over stimulus as a form of comfort. Through process she explores the question of shifting from digital reality back to physical. The works often start out with digital references and move from digital collage to accumulating material layers. Martinez integrates everyday materials of the built environment, literally surrounding her, like drywall, carpet backing, mesh tape, concrete as surface to begin with, slowly shifting from flatness to dimensionality. In recent works she is merging fibers-based processes of crochet, knitting, and paper making with her painting and sculptural works. This exhibition will feature Martinez’s new and recent works.
