Opening reception: Saturday, January 9, 2021, 6–9pm PST
Contemporary at Blue Star MOSAIC Student Artist Program artists have been selected for an exhibition presented by Axis Gallery in Sacramento, California. Posterworks is an exploration of traditional poster art and design, which has long been a part of modern life throughout politics, culture, and diverse industries. Posters continue to be a common printed medium for contemporary graphic artists and activists. For Posterworks, MOSAIC student artists present compelling graphic designs that capture this unique moment in time in the midst of a global pandemic. The artworks reflect on current events and the devastation the COVID-19 virus has had on our communities and personal lives.
MOSAIC operates year-round and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, students have continued to meet once a week via Zoom. Contemporary at Blue Star’s MOSAIC Artist-in-Residence Alex Rubio and a visiting artists mentor students in a diverse range of art mediums in an independent study format. Students participate in online instruction, lectures and virtual artist presentations. Axis Gallery has a connection to Contemporary at Blue Star’s MOSAIC Student Artist Program that extends beyond the presentation of Posterworks. Axis Gallery member Beth Consetta Rubel is a former MOSAIC program intern, who participated in the program in 2012.
