MOSAIC Recruitment Event

Contemporary at Blue Star’s MOSAIC Program will host a recruiting event on Monday, December 22 from 2-5pm. If you are a high-schooler interested in pursuing a career in art, join us to learn about this unique after school art program. This will be a multifaceted event featuring a presentation by Artist-in-Residence Alex Rubio, testimonials by MOSAIC students, a portfolio review, and not to mention pizza!

The presentation begins at 2pm and will be followed by a portfolio review with Alex Rubio. High school students, parents and teachers are encouraged to attend. Applications for the spring semester will be collected at this time.

More about the MOSAIC Program:

Contemporary at Blue Star’s MOSAIC program actively engages area youth in the creation and business of art-from art-making techniques to networking with patrons and accepting commissions. Student-artists study multiple media, including printmaking, drawing, painting, and ceramics. Students design and create public art projects, organize exhibitions of their work, prepare portfolios for gallery proposals and college applications, and volunteer at community events leading hands-on activities.

Renowned muralist and Blue Star’s Artist-in-Residence Alex Rubio mentors students for an intensive, year-round arts education. Students participate in Blue Star’s programs, and also attend workshops, lectures, and exhibitions at local cultural institutions and artist studios to gain further exposure to the city’s artistic landscape. Student exhibitions and public art projects, which include a large hand-made mosaic mural at H-E-B’s East Side location and the River Walk’s Compass Rose designating the city’s geographic center, become part of San Antonio and its vibrant and rich visual culture.
