Education Space Grand Reopening

Thursday, May 16, 2024

We are so thrilled to invite the community for the grand reopening of our Education Space (formerly the MOSAIC Student Artist Studio and Gallery)! The newly remodeled gallery, designed by the renowned Lake|Flato Architects, will offer an expanded and improved environment for our MOSAIC Student Artists and the public to engage in the creation and exploration of contemporary art!

“Silly Little Slices of Life” is a collection of artworks created by Contemporary’s Student Artists. Working with Visiting Artist, Brittany Ham, students explored the intersection of mundanity and social media. Students transformed ordinary images into moments of profound self reflection by experimenting with size, composition, color and medium.

The Contemporary at Blue Star’s MOSAIC Student Artist Program is open to high school students who are interested in developing their professional artistic skills and careers in the arts. The after-school program is a combination of studio practice and exposure to the business side of art and arts administration. An extension of the Contemporary’s educational programs, we are committed to giving MOSAIC students free access to quality arts education, encouraging high standards of achievement, and fostering excellence and leadership.

Support for the Contemporary’s MOSAIC Student Artist Program is provided by Bexar County; The Brown Foundation, Inc.; Capital Group Companies Charitable Foundation; City of San Antonio Department of Arts and Culture; The Greehey Family Foundation; H-E-B; Kronkosky; Contemporary’s Board of Directors, Advisory Council, Members, and Red Dot Supporters.

Thank you to our friends for their generosity, including Jeff Truax of Traux Construction for the walnut from his ranch to create custom benches for the space, Nate Cassie for working with our MOSAIC students to build the benches, and to Kronkonsky for their incredible support of the renovation.
