Blue Star 18 was curated by Terrie Sultan and exhibited artworks from Ron Binks, Margaret Craig, Joey Fauerso, Uta Fehlhaber-Smith, Art Gard, Jayne Lawrence, Suzanne Paquette, Henry Rayburn, John Segovia, and Bettie Ward. Sultan hoped that this exhibition would, “suggest new associations and conversations regarding their (the artists) work.” Four themes emerged in the artworks of this exhibition, the handmade nature of “woman’s work” to the boundaries of sexuality and gender, natural and/or scientific systems to explore the nature of perception, a romantic sense of time and place, and creative inspirations in the human engagement with natural forces. The ten artists included in this exhibition represented a snapshot of some of the major areas of exploration of concern to contemporary artists working throughout the world at the time.
