Figurative Works on Paper was curated by Kathy Vargas and exhibited artworks from Connie Arismendi, Rolando Briseño, Dayna De Hoyos, Pat Guerrero, Carol Hatch, Adan Hernandez, John Hernandez, Leticia Huerta, Luis Jimenez, Cesar Martinez, Juan Ramos, Diana Rodriguez Gil, Alex Rubio, Ana Laura de la Garza Tamez, and Vincent Valdez. The vocabulary of Chicano artists has always been expansive, including personal with the political and often merging the two. As the culture changes Chicano artists locate themselves within an ever more complex context. Despite their similarities, artists in the exhibition addressed culture in his/her own way. Some responded in direct portrayals and some responded in icons, symbols and oblique reference. Some gave gripping accounts and some reflected in a fragile and tentative manner.
