Sculpture: The Spectrum, curated by James Surls and Charmaine Locke, featured contemporary artworks exploring light, sound, and distance, from the following Houston artists: Robert Bourdon, Joanne Brigham, Maudee Carron, Jeff DeLude, Michael Galbreth, Linnea Glatt, Wes Hicks, Sharon Kopriva, Ken Luce, Jack Massing, Deborah Moore, Lisa Schoyer, Charles Stagg, Don Redman, Nestor Topchy, Ed Wilson, as well as some works from James Surls and Charmaine Locke. The curators chose the title Sculpture: The Spectrum, because the show ranged from more typical object-oriented work to sculpture using light and sound that directly involved the viewer. They “wanted to cover physical and psychological distance. From objects in space to space as art, from literal objects to light as art, from electrical impulses to sound”, according to James Surls.
