Critical Issues in Photography
On the eve of their first conference in the USA, Contemporary at Blue Star hosts the co-editors of photographies journal, Liz Wells and David Bate, with Erina Duganne, their Texas-based editorial board member, to discuss contemporary developments in thinking about photography. The program will introduce the journal and include an open discussion of varying forms of investigative and experimental photographic practices alongside theoretical issues in research, writing and criticism. It will be followed by an introduction to Blue Star Contemporary’s current exhibitions by Curator and Exhibition Manager Jacqueline Saragoza McGilvray and a reception. Speakers:
David Bate, photoartist, educator, theorist and founding co-editor of photographies journal. Professor of Photography at University of Westminster, London, UK.
Liz Wells, independent scholar and curator, is a founding co-editor of photographies and Emeritus Professor in Photographic Culture, University of Plymouth, UK.
Erina Duganne is Professor of Art History at Texas State University and on the editorial board of photographies.
Jacqueline Saragoza McGilvray is the staff curator for Contemporary at Blue Star, San Antonio, TX and a practicing photographer.
