Necessities
- Unemployment Assistance: You may qualify for Disaster Unemployment Assistance as the U.S. Department of Labor has expanded the definition of those covered due to the COVID-19 outbreak, open even to those losing income for an undetermined amount of time due to temporary closure or those who must leave employment because they are high risk. This is not limited to those employed by a company; self-employed individuals such as artists are eligible. You need only have a contract, 1099, or W-2.
- San Antonio Food Bank– In addition to their food support, the SA Food Bank offers assistance in applying for different state and federal benefits programs, including: SNAP, Medicaid, CHIP, WIC, TANF, and Healthy Texas Women

Emergency Grants and Funding
- Arts and Culture Leaders of Color Emergency Fund – $200 per person, on a first-come, first-served basis. Rolling application.
- Arts Fund COVID-19 Arts Emergency Relief Fund
- Artist Relief -$5,000 unrestricted grants to artists Applications are now open for Cycle 1: April 8th – April 23rd (closing 11:59pm ET). The fund will operate through September 2020. Grants will be available and distributed over six months.
- Actos de Confianza: NALAC Micro-Grants– $500, deadline April 16th, 2020 at 4:00PM Central Time
- Black Spatial Relics – 5 micro grants of $550.00 – April 15 deadline
- Care not cages art competition– cash awards $500-$1,500, May 1 deadline
- Artists’ Fellowship, Inc. The Artists’ Fellowship provides emergency aid to professional fine artists and their families in times of sickness, natural disaster, bereavement or unexpected extreme hardship. The organization defines eligibility to “Professional” is defined as those visual artists who make their livelihood through sales as reported on a Schedule C with a U.S. Federal tax return. An active exhibition history is also an important part of documenting “professional.” You can find the application here.
- The Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant – (up to $15,000; standard award is $5,000) for unforeseen circumstances-rolling application process

- Haven Foundation The Haven Foundation provides financial assistance to artists who have a health crisis. Read the guidelines for application here.
- Folk and Traditional Arts of Texas- $500 grants, August 14, deadline
- Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant Foundation for Contemporary Arts has a relief fund for artists who incur unexpected or unbudgeted expenses for projects close to completion with committed exhibition or performance dates. These grants do not cover life-related emergencies such as food, rent, medical bills, childcare, and other basic necessities, reimbursement for expenses that you have already incurred, or projects with no scheduled exhibition or performance dates, so look closely at the requirements and limitations.
- Disabled Creator and Activist Pandemic Relief
- Rauschenberg Emergency Grants- One-time grants of up to $5,000 for medical emergencies. Applications will be accepted and reviewed by the panel on a monthly basis beginning in late May/early June 2020
- Craft Emergency Relief Fund- $3,000 in immediate financial assistance; discounts and donations for art supplies also available. Rolling application

- Pollock-Krasner Foundation – size of the grant is determined by the artist’s individual circumstances. Rolling application process
- The Photographer’s Fund with Format – A $25,000 fund providing assistance of up to $500 per artist. Rolling application process, until funds are depleted.
- Leveler– Peer-to-peer wealth redistribution in small increments. Applicants fill out a form explaining how they’ve been impacted and others who are in better financial positions can donate. Rolling application process and as funds are available.
- Freelancers Relief Fund-Up to $1,000 in financial assistance per freelance household. Rolling application process.
- Artist Relief Project – One-time emergency stipend in the amount of $200. Stipends and support will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis, with the only limitation being how much is money able to be raised.
- Art Interrupted Emergency Arts Fund – grants for individual artists up to $500 and grants of $1,000 for arts organizations. Rolling application process.
- Women Photograph– Five grants of $5,000 to support photography projects. Application deadline is May 15, 2020.
For Arts Writers
- Pen Writers’ Emergency Fund-One-time grants of $500 to $1,000 based on financial need. Applications will be reviewed within 10 days of submission.
- Authors League Fund-No-strings-attached loans of varying amounts that can be repaid when possible, in part, or through partial donations, and are not subject to tax. Rolling application process.
- American Society of Journalists and Authors Writers Emergency Assistance Fund -One-time grants to help pay for emergency medical bills. The review process for emergency grants takes approximately 2-4 weeks.
- International Women’s Media Foundation Journalism Relief Fund –Grants of up to $2,000 per request. Rolling application process.
