Michael Velliquette

This exhibition of Michael Velliquette’s elaborate paper sculptures will be the most comprehensive show featuring these works to date. This unique installation of Velliquette’s work creates intimate spaces to welcome viewers into these intricate, structural, collages. The works in their layering, complexity, and rich colors communicate ornate preciousness, yet their material and process–paper works made through meditative repetitions of measure, cut, compose, glue–reveal a side to the work that embraces the ordinary and fragile. These methods intersect to signify transformation, a literal unexpected transformation of material, and potential states of reflection as the viewer visually enters these temple-like, miniature architectures.
